About Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan is a country in Central Asia, officially known as the Republic of Uzbekistan. It is located between the main rivers of Central Asia’s “ancient Mesopotamia,” the Amu Darya and the Syr Darya, with a total area of 448.9 thousand square kilometers.
The country is centrally located among other Central Asian nations, including Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan. In 2021, Uzbekistan’s permanent population exceeded 35 million.
Uzbekistan has highly favorable natural and geographical conditions among Central Asian states, making it a key hub for international transportation. Most of its territory consist of lowlands, with the Turan Plain being the most significant. The Tien Shan and Pamir mountain ranges are located in the east and northeast, with the country’s highest point reaching 4,643 meters. The Kyzylkum Desert, the largest desert in Central Asia, occupies a significant portion of Uzbekistan. Today, tourist routes have been developed in the desert, attracting both domestic and foreign visitors.
Uzbekistan’s climate is highly variable and continental, with significant annual temperature fluctuations. In winter, temperatures can drop to -6°C or even -8°C in January, while in summer, they can rise from 40°C to 42°C in July. The climate is dry, meaning that temperatures feel different compared to high-humidity regions. However, tourists can travel throughout Uzbekistan year-round, even during the hottest and coldest months.
The country is very rich in natural resources. It has been confirmed that Uzbekistan is a leader not only among the CIS countries but also globally in terms of mineral reserves, such as gold, uranium, copper, natural gas, tungsten, potassium salts, phosphorites, and kaolin.
Additionally, Uzbekistan has long been recognized as a powerhouse in agriculture. The country stands among the world’s top producers of cotton and silk, exporting these prized goods to international markets. But beyond its textiles, Uzbekistan is renowned for its delicious, naturally grown fruits and vegetables, which now reach consumers across Europe and Asia.
Nowadays, Uzbekistan is one of the fastest-growing countries in tourism. The country’s rapid development is attracting global attention. In recent years, Uzbekistan has undertaken significant systematic efforts to boost tourism, resulting in a continuous increase in domestic and international flights. Uzbekistan has a rich history spanning thousands of years, with ancient and legendary cities featuring many historical and architectural monuments. Ancient cities such as Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, Shahrisabz, and Tashkent continue to captivate travelers with their architectural splendor and timeless charm. For centuries, Uzbekistan was a key trading hub on the Great Silk Road, a favorite destination for caravans, merchants, and travelers. The country has also been home to well-known historical figures, including Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, and Amir Temur. Apart from them, the ancient Greeks, Persians, Arabs, Mongols, Turks, and Russians have all played roles in its history.
