The four seasons

  • Spring (March to May)

Green hills, blossom in the orchards and warm days. Navruz, the Persian New Year, fills the streets on 21 March. April and May are the most popular months, so book early.

  • Summer (June to August)

Very hot and dry in Bukhara and Khiva, often above 35 °C. Sightseeing is planned for mornings and evenings, and the Chimgan and Nuratau mountains are pleasantly cool. Melons, apricots and grapes are at their best.

  • Autumn (September to November)

Golden light, harvest bazaars and comfortable temperatures. September and October are, with spring, the best months to travel.

  • Winter (December to February)

Cold, sometimes snowy, and very quiet: the monuments are almost empty and hotel prices are lower. Skiing in Chimgan and Beldersay, near Tashkent.
